K0102152 Historic Preservation Specialist II - Subgrants Coordinator | State of Kansas | Position Description

This position serves as the subgrant programs coordinator for the Cultural Resources Division of the Kansas Historical Society. Duties include coordination of the Heritage Trust Fund grant program and, from time to time, other subgrant programs. Work includes creation of grant application materials, presentation of grant workshops, reviewing preliminary applications, review funded projects, conduct site visits/write site visit reports, provide technical assistance to grantees and design professionals, and ensure grantees comply with programs requirements. The employee will work with the Division Director to ensure that federal and state funding requirements are met and that each subgrant is reviewed in accordance with the state and federal preservation laws following Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. This employee is also the primary coordinator for planning the annual statewide preservation conference in conjunction with local contacts.

This position is responsible for overseeing projects as part of the agency’s contract archeology program. This program contracts with KDOT to perform archeological reviews for upcoming highway projects. The person in this position will analyze the potential of these projects to affect the state’s archeological resources through background research, archeological survey, testing, and report writing to the standards set in the Kansas SHPO’s Guide to Archeological Survey, Assessment and Reports. Candidates must have a graduate degree in archeology, anthropology, or closely related field.

This position is responsible for grounds/landscape services, small and heavy equipment operations, maintenance and repair work, and for building maintenance duties required at the Kansas Historical Society, which includes the Kansas Museum of History, State Archives, Potawatomi Mission, Stach School, and warehouse. The site has a total of 80 acres and a variety of landscape settings with different and special needs (groomed landscapes, special landscape plantings and a nature trail with historic and natural interpretations).
