Abstract: The State Archives holds two series from Glen Elder in Mitchell County, both on microfilm. One consists of City Council minutes, the other township justice of the peace civil and criminal action dockets. These records are from the last quarter of the nineteenth and first few years of the twentieth centuries. There is also an 1895 township census roll for Glen Elder in paper form.

Administrative History

Administrative History: Mitchell County in north-central Kansas was named for William D. Mitchell, who entered the Union army as a private in Company K, Second Kansas Cavalry. Promoted to captain in a Kentucky regiment, he was killed in action at Monroe's Cross Roads, North Carolina, in 1865. The county was established in 1867.

Beloit is the county seat. Townships in Mitchell County include Asherville, Beloit, Bloomfield, Blue Hill, Carr Creek, Cawker, Center, Custer, Eureka, Glen Elder, Hayes, Logan, Lulu, Pittsburg, Plum Creek, Round Springs, Salt Creek, Solomon Rapids, Turkey Creek, and Walnut Creek.
