Biographical sketch: Harold Taylor Chase was born on 13 April 1864 to Mr. & Mrs. Edward H. Chase of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In the 1880s he graduated from Harvard and came to Kansas, working on the Topeka Daily Capital newspaper where for almost a half century he wrote editorials. Harold married Annie Thompson in 1890 and they had a son, Hamilton and a daughter, Ethel who married David Nethercott of Birmingham, Michigan. Harold Chase worked with and knew such individuals as William Allen White, Theodore Roosevelt, Senator John J. Ingalls, Kansas Governors and Dr. Charles M. Sheldon. Hamilton attended Wisconsin University but returned to Kansas. Harold Taylor Chase died 22 June 1935.

Abstract: The collection consists of a variety of materials mostly related to the Chase family. These include letters to and from Chase family members, newspaper clippings, certificates and diplomas, photographs, papers and articles such as Wisconsin University Extension Division Course papers written by Hamilton Chase, legal documents and other such materials. Also in the collection are photographs and other materials related to the Courtsal family and the Tonkinson family as well as museum guides and pamphlets, magazine articles and other materials.
