Abstract: The collection documents Reb Russell's run for Kansas representative of the Fifth District in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as his movie career in Western films. The collection includes an envelope of notes from Sylvester Tinker to Reb Russell; a letter from Reb Russell to B. Davis, 1971; certificate of appreciation from the Rotary Club of Ponca City, Okla.; a copy of a lobby card for "Outlaw Rule"; a copy of the lobby card for "Border Vengeance;" a letter from John Hall to Reb's wife Julia with accompanying Wrangler's roost volume with a brief reminiscence about Reb; and a campaign letter for Kansas 5th District representative.

Audio-visual materials include several photographs and movie stills of Russell, his family, and Russell with President Lyndon Johnson. Films on DVD and VHS include "Cheyenne Tornado," "Rawhide Romance," "Blazing Guns," "Border Vengeance," "Fighting to Live," "The Man From Hell," "Blazing Guns," "Fighting to Live," "Sunflower Journeys Program 309," "Arizona Bad Man," "Gun Lords of Stirrup Basin," and Outlaw Rule."

Biography

Biog. Sketch (Full): Reb Russell, born Lafayette H. Russell in 1905, was a Democratic nominee from the Kansas Fifth District in the United States House of Representatives in 1964. He was a farmer and rancher in Coffeyville, Kansas. He made the all-American team on Northwestern University's football team as a fullback. He played professional football for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants in 1933. Russell also acted in several Western films
