Based on workshops held by the Toronto Area Archivists Group (TAAG), this book details site assessment, writing of disaster plans, and recovery procedures. Some of the information, such as that regarding insurance, is oriented to the specific concerns of Canadian institutions but alert outside institutions to important issues for consideration when writing a disaster plan. It also supplies the reader with information about salvaging paper, leather, photographic, magnetic, phonographic, and painted materials.

Presenters from various institutions, such as museums and libraries, talk about their experiences in preparing for and coping with disasters. One paper discusses the role of FEMA as it relates to disasters and cultural institutions.

This is a thorough bibliography that is updated periodically, the most recent revision being April 1996. It lists everything that has been published on these subjects thus providing a history for disasters, disaster preparedness, and disaster recovery in information-bearing institutions as well as the tools for preparing one's own disaster plan.
