Farm Truck

A truck is an indispensable piece of equipment on the farm. Ford grain truck on display with photo cut-out in 'Wheat People.'

Trucks are needed for harvesting, receiving the crops as the combine cuts through the field, and then taking the grain to the local elevator or to farm storage bins. A truck is an indispensable piece of equipment on the farm.

In 1955 the Geffert family of rural Iola, Allen County, bought two new 1955 Ford F600 trucks-one red, one blue-for use in farming, both being adapted for hauling crops. Like many Kansas farmers, the Gefferts raised milo, corn, soybeans, and wheat. Both trucks were regularly used in hauling crops to the local elevator at Humboldt.

In early 1999, Robert M. "Mike" Geffert donated the red truck to the Kansas Museum of History. A true low-mileage vehicle, it has only 32,150 miles on it.
