Kansas Museum of History - Kansas Day

This year's Kansas Day theme is maps. Join us (and hundreds of students from across the state) as we explore the rich heritage of Kansas through maps from our collections in the special exhibit You are Here: Putting Kansas on the Map. We'll also have live performances, hands-on standards based activities, and demonstrations of historic crafts and skills. Admission is free. Fort Hays - Kansas Day

Join us as we commemorate the 151st anniversary of Kansas statehood with educational programs designed for school groups. Performances/presentations include "Out of the Bedroll," about Kansas cowboys by Don Rowlison; "Flint Knapping and Indian Weapons," a demonstration by Gary Schuler; and "Kansas Animals," an up-close look at the native creatures of Kansas by Jay Burns. Kansas Museum of History - You Are Here: Putting Kansas on the Map

A new special exhibit at the Kansas Museum of History, You Are Here: Putting Kansas on the Map. Enjoy the best maps from our collection in this showcase of Kansas places.  This unique exhibit will present many maps that are rare and seldom displayed. It also offers art work and objects related to maps and map making.

Pawnee Indian Museum - Kansas Day

This event marks the 151st anniversary of Kansas statehood, January 29, 1861. The site will honor our state animal, the American Bison (buffalo) that day with a special exhibit of antique bison prints from the 1700s and 1800s.  The highlight of the day will be a drawing for a bison skull painted by a Pawnee elder. The skull was donated for the drawing by the Friends of Pawnee Indian Museum, a non-profit organization that supports the programs of the Museum. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free for this special event. Pawnee Indian Museum State Historic Site is located at 480 Pawnee Trail, eight miles north of U.S. 36 on K-266 near Republic. Pawnee Indian Museum - Ledger Art of the Cheyennes and Kiowas

Ledger Art is a term for Plains Indian narrative drawing or painting on paper or cloth.  This form of art was popular primarily from the 1860s to about 1900.  Two plains tribes that produced the majority of the art were the Cheyenne and the Kiowa.  Explore this temporary exhibit, featuring several large colorful examples of ledger art including Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Pawnee warriors in battle and in daily life. Kaw Mission - Kansas Day

Join us for the commemoration of the 151st anniversary of Kansas statehood at Kaw Mission. We will be showing selected episodes of the KTWU public television series Sunflower Journeys, including some related to Kaw Mission. Visitors can also enjoy tours of the mission and explore the history of the Kansa Indians for whom our state was named.
