Just inside the gallery doors of the Kansas Museum of History.

A Career Army Man
Through May 2008

Colonel John Yard's service began during the Civil War and ended during the Indian Wars. Among the posts held by this career soldier was Major in the 10th U.S. Cavalry--one of four African American regiments referred to as the "Buffalo Soldiers." Yard also commanded Fort Hays, Kansas. This display features his dress helmet and photographs, recently donated by a descendant.
