The Klan first infiltrated Kansas in 1921. It claimed to be a reform group promoting White supremacy and calling for limits on foreign immigration. Klan membership may have been as high as 200,000 in Kansas. But most people disagreed with the Klan's intimidating and violent tactics. In 1925 Kansas became the first state to legally oust the Klan.
