The Legacy of Kansas Territory

Right answer!

American Woman and Her Political Peers Unlike many other states, Kansas allowed women to vote in school board elections and own property.

But they could not vote in state and national elections until 1912, when Kansas became the eighth U.S. state to extend full voting privileges to women.

It wasn't until 1920 that all American women were guaranteed the right to vote by the 19th amendment to the constitution.

American Woman and Her Political Peers, the painting at right, was designed as a lesson on the political status of women in the 1890s.
