Kansas Interpretive Traveling Exhibit Service
People around the world and throughout time have found many ways to
create a home using the materials at hand. Houses built by Kansans throughout
many centuries highlight the universal process of people creating structures
within specific physical settings, guided by the technical idea of "house"
and the cultural blueprint of "home." The one constant is the search
for that sense of security and belonging.
This exhibit explores the reasons behind different house styles, from
the Native American tipi to the modern ranch and beyond. Produced
by the Kansas Historical Society with major funding from the Topeka
Home Builders' Association.

Two centures ago a great expedition entered what is now Kansas. Meriwether
Lewis and William Clark led this "Corps of Discovery" on its mission
to explore the Louisiana Purchase. This exhibit uses historical sketches,
paintings, and journal entries to illustrate Lewis and Clark's findings
and impressions of the land now known as Kansas.
The bicentennial commemoration of the Lewis and Clark expedition begins
in 2004. This nationally-recognized event will be celebrated in Kansas,
one of the 11 original trail states. Produced by
the Kansas Historical Society.
