[Our day started at ] daylight. We had to milk the cows first, 10 or more. Separate the milk and feed the calves and the pigs and then we'd go eat breakfast, then [Frank would] go and put the canvasses on--you had to put the canvas on the binder. . . . Get the horses ready. Had to feed the horses. Didn't have to put gas in them, but you had to feed them, harness them--a lot of work before you got to the field. . . . [About] 9:00 or so they started loading wagons [with wheat bundles], 10:00 or so when they started threshing. . . . Most of the time we threshed right out of the field. Picked up the bundles and brought them in. But you know, I enjoyed every bit of it. Oh, golly, I just love the farm. Love to watch things grow and I loved my animals.
