Origin of Name:In memory of Capt. Amos Hodgman of Co. H, Seventh Kansas Cavalry, who died 16 Oct 1863 near Oxford, Miss., of wounds received in action at Wyatt, Miss., on 10 Oct 1863. The statute creating the county added an extra 'e' in his surname.
