Archives Month/WeekLook for information on KSHS' last Archives Week Program Genealogy Expo, October 25 - 26, 2002What is Archives Week?Archives Week, part of the national Archives Month, is an annual celebration of the value of Kansas' historical records. Through programs, every Kansas group and institution working with historical records can publicize the many ways our historical records enrich our lives. The Kansas Historical Society sponsors Archives Week activities in Kansas each October in conjunction with local historical and genealogical societies. Why Participate in Archives Week?Archives Week helps the general public and resource allocators such as trustees, administrators and legislators to appreciate and understand that historical records have a contribution to make to modern society. By participating in Archives Week, you show off your collection of historical records and you work with the community, colleagues, and resource allocators to demostrate the value of these records and the significance of the work you do with them. If your institution or group regularly uses historical records as part of your work, Archives Month is an opportunity to hold public programs that highlight your work and the ways historical records make it happen. Similarly, if your business or organization creates records that in time become valuable to understand our history, Archives Month is the best time to call attention to the importance of creating those historical records and saving important evidence of the past. |
