Awards & Grants

The Kansas Historical Society honors outstanding achievements by individuals and organizations through historical research grants and related recognitions.

The Alfred M. Landon Grants is presented annually in June to graduate students for academic research, are awarded at a maximum of $1,000.
The Edgar Langsdorf Award is presented annually in November to the author of article judged the best published in Kansas History: A Journal of the Central Plains.
The Nyle H. Miller Local Historical Organization Award is presented annually in November and recognizes outstanding accomplishments of a local organization.
The Edward H. Tihen Historical Publication Awards is presented biennially during odd years in November and promotes the publication of material on the history of Kansas by first-time authors.
The Edward H. Tihen Historical Research Grants is presented annually in June and are presented annually to non-academic researchers for research in the collections of the Society.
