Kansas History Teachers Association 80th Annual Conference

The KHTA meets annually every spring to bring together teachers, scholars, students, and others interested in promoting history. The KHTA conferences offer a unique opportunity for contact and communication across schools, colleges, and universities. They also provide a forum for college students to present research papers and receive cash prizes.

Locations (keyed to enclosed map of Bethany College)

Registration will be held beginning at 2:30 pm on Friday and 8:00 am on Saturday in the Levin Room, located in the upper level of the Pihlblad Memorial Union (#20) on the Bethany College campus. The back of the Union building is directly across the street (west) from the large parking lot at the corner of Swensson and Kansas Avenue.

Hospitality and Display tables will also be located in the Levin Room.

Conference panels, both Friday and Saturday, will be located in rooms 15, 16, and 17 of the Wallerstedt Social Sciences Center, (#33) located directly west of the Pihlblad Memorial Union.

Friday evening’s reception will be held at the Brick Street Gallery in downtown Lindsborg.

Friday’s dinner and speaker, as well as the Saturday business meeting, luncheon, and speaker will all be located in Lindquist Hall of the Wallerstedt Library, (#32) directly west of the Social Sciences Center.

Conference Speakers

The Friday Dinner will feature James Leiker, Associate Professor of History at Johnson County Community College. His speech is entitled “Race, Religion, and Representation: The Lives and Memoirs of Four African American Men in the West.”

The Saturday Luncheon will feature Bill Tsutsui, Associate Professor of History at the University of Kansas. His speech is entitled, “Gamma Rays, DDT, and Giant Insects: Screening Unseen Horrors in the 1950s.”

Lodging

Lindsborg offers several options for lodging including two Motels and multiple Bed and Breakfasts. If these do not meet your needs, lodging is available in Salina and McPherson as well. A list of available lodging with contact information is enclosed.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

A 50% refund will be available if requested in writing two weeks before the start of the conference.
