InternshipsThe Kansas Historical Society offers up to two paid internship positions funded by the John Ripley Endowment and the Lela Barnes fund. Each internship is a full-time position (40 hours per week) for eight weeks during the summer. Interns will receive a $2,500 stipend.John Ripley was a Topeka businessman well known not only for the prosperous laundry business, but also for his interest in and knowledge of local history. Lela Barnes was a curator of manuscripts at the Kansas Historical Society from 1936 - 1962. Qualifications Undergraduate and graduate students who meet at least one of the following requirements are eligible: Students must be majoring in history, anthropology, communications, graphic design, American studies, museum studies, folk arts, or a related program. Immediate family members of the staff of the Kansas Historical Society and the Kansas State Historical Society, Inc., are not eligible for this program. All candidates will be notified in writing whether they have or have not received an internship. The Lela Barnes Archival Internship is presented annually in May to graduate students enrolled in Kansas colleges and universities and Kansas residents attending any graduate school. |
