Philip Anschutz was born December 28, 1939, in Russell, Kansas. Anschutz’s father was an entrepreneur in the oil industry and Anschutz soon followed in his father’s footsteps. Anschutz has not only invested in oil, but railroads, communications, and entertainment. Anschutz went to the University of Kansas where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Auschutz owns many Major League soccer teams and has most recently purchased the rights to the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, along with several others. Anschutz is a member of the American Petroleum Institute and the National Petroleum Council boards, the chairman of the Anschutz Foundation, a trustee of the Kansas University Endowment Association, and a member of several other large organizations. Forbes listed Anschutz as the 133rd wealthiest person in the world and the 47th wealthiest person in the United States.
