Lincoln Sites in KansasEach February, in commemoration of Abraham Lincoln's birth, Lincoln, Kansas, hosts a special Lincoln Day Reenactment, including a look-a-like contest, freedom march, president's ball. An 1856 vintage home sits 100 feet from the site where Lincoln spoke on December 1, 1859. Local lore says Mr. Lincoln visited the home that then belonged to Sidney Tennent, a man to whom Lincoln had ties. On the square in Troy, Kansas, the side lawn bears a memorial to the leader with a bust of Lincoln as he appeared in 1859. The site is administered by the Doniphan County Historical Society and figures prominently in a "Lincoln In Kansas" tour being planned. |
