Backward Glance: Images from Marshall County, through February 24, 2008

Marysville photographer Omar Hawkins captured everyday images from life in the 1920s and 30s in Marshall County. Join us to catch a glimpse of his work during this limited-run exhibit in our special gallery.

Marshall County residents will be admitted to the Kansas Museum of History at no charge with proof of residence (driver's license or similar identification) throughout the duration of this exhibit.

Connie's Mexico Cafe
Through March 2008

Wichita's oldest family-run Mexican restaurant is Connie's Mexico Cafe. Enjoy objects used in the home of its founders, Concepcion "Connie" Lopez and her husband Rafael. Many of the items were purchased by the Lopezes on their frequent trips to Mexico, and used in their Wichita home. View images of the Lopez family on Kansas Memory.

Forces of Nature - March 21, 2008 - January 4, 2009

A highly-interactive exhibit, featuring a storm shelter and weather forecasting station, Forces of Nature tells how the elements - earth, wind, fire, and water, have shaped life in Kansas.

This exhibit also tells the story of how people in Kansas have not only tried to control, but adapt to, the extremes of climate.

Free Educational Series Continue at State Historic Sites

Our popular Bleeding Kansas Programs, Winter Video Series, and Kaw Councils are underway at three of our state historic sites. Read on for the details, and plan to attend!

Constitution HallThe 2008 Bleeding Kansas Programs at Constitution Hall in Lecompton will be held Sundays through February 24 at 2 p.m. Speakers and first-person costumed portrayals will help tell the story of a struggling Kansas and its people.

 

Pawnee Indian MuseumThe 2008 Winter Video Series at the Pawnee Indian Museum near Republic will be held at 2 p.m. Sundays through February 10. The Great American West is the topic of this season's videos. Enjoy coffee and cookies, relax, and learn more about the history of the region we call home.

Craig FreemanThe theme for our Kaw Councils 2008 educational series is Our Fabulous Flint Hills: The Hills Are Alive! Join us at 3:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15, for "Simple Sublime Statistics: The Flora And Vegetation Of The Flint Hills," presented by Craig Freeman, Curator, R. L. McGregor Herbarium, and Associate Scientist, Kansas Biological Survey.

Kansas History: A Journal of the Central Plains
