Kansas Historical Society
Headquartered in a complex of four buildings in northwest Topeka:
Kansas Museum of History, opened in 1984, Discovery Place, a hands-on gallery for children, and the museum store, offering Kansas products.
Library, opened in 1995, home to the reference room and Library and
Archives Division, with its collection of books and periodicals, manuscripts,
records, newspapers, photographs, and microfilm; the Cultural Resources
Division which comprises Archeology and Historic Preservation; the publications
staff which produces the award-winning Kansas Heritage
magazine and Kansas History; and the Administration
Division.

Kaleidoscope, a fun magazine for kids!
Potawatomi Mission, a conference and meeting facility built in 1995 in the 1848 mission.
Stach School, built in 1877, moved to Topeka in 1984 from near Delia, Kansas, and restored in 1989 into a 1920s one-room schoolhouse.
Nature Trail, opened in 1998, a 2.5 mile walk featuring the natural and historic resources of the area.
Operations
The Kansas Historical Society operates the complex and administers
16 state-owned historic sites across the state. Since 1875 the Society
has preserved and interpreted Kansas history through its extensive collections,
varied programs, and award-winning exhibits.
Location
Surrounded by 81-one acres of prairies and woodlands, the Kansas Historical
Society is conveniently located just off exit 356 on I-70 at 6425 SW
Sixth Avenue in west Topeka.
