The museum features two galleries of national award-winning exhibits where the story of Kansas comes alive.
Main gallery (19,000 square feet) on Kansas history
Special exhibits gallery (3,000 square feet) with changing exhibits
Buffalo-hide tipi, grass lodge, and other striking exhibits on Kansas' native inhabitants
Covered wagon stocked for passage on the Oregon Trail
Civil War banner dropped during a bloody raid by Confederate guerillas
Log house filled with everyday objects from frontier life
George Custer's cavalry boots and other artifacts from tragic encounters between Indians and soldiers
Train - locomotive, tender, and two cars-accenting exhibits on the railroad and nineteenth-century lifestyles
Windmill, tractor, and other farm machinery illustrating Kansas' reputation as the nation's breadbasket
1950s diner and interactive video emphasizing the state's role in the fast-food industry
Discovery Place - hands-on interactive gallery for all ages
$5 adults, $4 seniors, $3 students, Kansas residents receive $1 discount, KSHS members and children five and under admitted free, group rates available with prior notice
Museum Store - featuring unique Kansas gifts and books
