Boy's Band Uniform Coat

This band uniform coat was made for six-year-old Walter Eager Daish of Kansas City, Kansas.

The boy wore the uniform in 1897 while portraying John Philip Sousa for an event at his church. Sousa was a famous conductor whose immensely popular band travelled the nation and the world providing musical entertainment.

In the years before recorded music became widely available, bands provided accompaniment for all kinds of occasions in communities across America.
