Henry Agnew Bubb

Banker, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Born: March 26, 1907, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Died: January 10, 1989, Topeka, Kansas.

Henry Agnew Bubb was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on March 26, 1907, to Henry A. and Marjorie (Wheeler) Bubb. He moved with his family to Kansas at an early age. He attended Topeka public schools and the University of Kansas, and later received an honorary doctoral degree in business from Washburn University.

He started with Capitol Federal Savings as a clerk in 1926, and was elected president in 1941, and chairman of the board in 1950. He continued in those positions until 1969, at which time, John C. "Jack" Dicus was elected president. Bubb remained as chairman until his death. Under his leadership Capitol Federal grew from 12 employees to one of the largest financial institutions in Kansas.

Bubb served as chairman of the board of the Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation, and member, vice chairman and chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka. He served on numerous advisory committees to the U.S. Senate, including the banking and currency committee, and the U. S. Department of Treasury advisory committee on the savings and loan industry.

He was active in many charitable organizations, such as the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Arab Shrine Temple, the Topeka Chamber of Commerce, American Red Cross, and the Kansas Research Foundation. He also served on the Kansas State Board of Regents from 1961 to 1977. He was the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas' Distinguished Kansan of the Year in 1972. Bubb was elected to the Kansas Business Hall of Fame in 1993.

Bubb died in Topeka, Kansas, on January 10, 1989.
