Kansas Day at the Museum 2012

Kansas students and teachers celebrate Kansas's 151st birthday!

The Kansas Historical Society thanks everyone who took part in this 151st birthday celebration.

Governor Brownback welcomed visitors to Kansas Day at the Museum.  Dillons provided a birthday cake which was donated to Let's Help after the governor's welcome

 

 

 

Kansas Day visitors voted for their favorite famous Kansan.  Amelia Earhart was 1st, James Naismith 2nd, and 3rd was John Brown

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students explored Kansas history with activities tied to the Kansas Academic Standards.  They examined a footprint of a Pawnee earthlodge, learned about the Underground Railroad, voted for their favorite famous Kansan, matched natural resources found in Kansas with their many uses, explored the winter sky, and much more.

Artisans demonstrated historic skills, and talked about the importance of these in people's lives.
