Kansas State Capitol - Online tour - Winter murals
In 1976 the Capitol murals committee selected Lumen Martin Winter (1908-1982) to complete the artwork in the rotunda, filling the space left vacant by John Steuart Curry. A sculptor, painter, and muralist, Winter painted his scenes on canvas at his studio in New Mexico perhaps to avoid the criticism that Curry endured. In 1978 the paintings were installed and dedicated.
