The Honorable Paul Buchanan received his bachelor’s degree from Sterling College and his juris doctorate from the University of Kansas. He served as a district judge for 20 years; as a chief judge for more than six years.
Buchanan is a member of the Wichita Bar Association, Wichita Bibliophiles, and the Wichita State University Library Associates. He served as a member of the Kansas Department of Corrections prison overcrowding committee.
He is a member of the Presbyterian church. His interests in history include the Santa Fe Trail, Lewis and Clark, Kansas and the West, and Plains Indian Wars. He also enjoys collectiong guns, maps, photography, and books.
Buchanan is a life member of the Kansas Historical Foundation. He was first elected to the Foundation’s board of directors in 1993, he served as president in 2011, and continues to be a member of the executive committee and audit committee. He previously served as chair of the Edgar Langsdorf Award of Excellence committee. His wife, Phyllis, served on the Historical Society’s Save Outdoor Sculpture project.
