Popular collections - American Indian history

Many different people lived in the area we now call Kansas. American Indians were in this area when Europeans came to explore in the 1500s - 1700s. More Indian people were forcibly moved here in the 1800s and missions were established to educate their children. While most of the people were moved on to what is now Oklahoma, some agreed to stay on reservations.  The Historical Society collections include enlightening records from these time periods.
