Archeologists are scientists who study people of the past by systematically investigating their sites and artifacts. Since there are no written records to tell us about the people who lived in Kansas before the 1500s, the artifacts in our collections, that span from 12,000 years ago through the mid-20th century, help us piece together information about the past.
Our material culture collections are among the largest and most comprehensive material of the Kansas region, documenting more than 10,000 years in the central plains.
