EXPERIENCE: Dean has been researching and writing about Kansas and regional history for more than twenty-five years, and for more than twenty years he edited Kansas History: A Journal of the Central Plains, a peer-reviewed quarterly published by the Kansas Historical Society. He began working for the KSHS in 1987 and received his PhD in U.S. History in 1991. In addition to numerous articles, encyclopedia essays, and book reviews, he has published three books: An Opportunity Lost: The Truman Administration and the Postwar Farm Policy Debate (2006); John Brown to Bob Dole: Movers and Shakers in Kansas History (2006); and a Territorial Kansas Reader (2005); as well as with the late Kansas State University professor Homer E. Socolofsky, Kansas History: An Annotated Bibliography, an extensive work that contains over 4500 entries. He has taught Kansas history at Washburn University and the University of Kansas, worked as a historical consultant for the Kansas Humanities Council, and is currently working as the consulting editor of Kansas History for Chapman Center of Rural Studies, Kansas State University.
