Sundown Film Festival

Celebrating its sixth year in 2011, the Sundown Film Festival is one of the community's favorite summertime family events. The festival features films projected on a giant screen on the lawn of the Kansas Historical Society. Films are free and museum admission is a low $1.50 in honor of the Kansas 150 commemoration of 150 years of Kansas statehood. Concessions available.

Wyatt Earp (1994)

One of the West's most famous individuals finds danger as a lawman. He moves westward from Missouri to Kansas to Arizona, where he takes on the cowboy gang. Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid, Gene Hackman. Portions set in Wichita. although not filmed in Kansas.

Tips for enjoying the Sundown Film Festival:

  • Bring your blankets and/or lawn chairs.
  • Come early, because the plaza fills up fast! Set up on the grass, then stroll over to the museum to visit our main gallery for $1.50 from 5 to 9 p.m. The store will also be open until 9 p.m.
  • The movie starts at sundown, usually around 9 p.m.
  • Bug spray is always a good idea on a muggy summer night.
  • The concession stand closes about 30 minutes into the film. Support the festival by buying concessions and/or making donations!
  • In case of rain, the event will be moved inside to the museum lobby.
