Fort Scott

  • Business name: Clayton Oil
  • Street address: Originally located on U.S. 54 Highway, west of intersection with U.S. 69 Highway. Now believed to be in Fort Scott.

  • History: The building was a filling station owned by Ellsworth Clayton from the 1950s to the 1970s. It was sold to a Fort Scott businessman and moved to an undisclosed location in 2008. It is very similar to other buildings at Holyrood and Salina that may be Valentine diners, but there remains a question as to how these structures fit into the Valentine chronology.
