c. 1888- Dome under constructionThe Kansas State Capitol was completed in 1903 after 37 years of construction. It is a few feet higher than our nation's Capitol in Washington, D.C. Located on a 20-acre site, the State Capitol grounds feature statues, memorials and gardens. The height from the ground floor to the top is 304 feet. The outside of the dome is covered with copper sheeting. The glass panels viewed from inside the Capitol Building make up the inner dome. The outer copper dome extends about 75 feet above this inner dome. There is no public access to the top. |
