The Society of Friends of Historic Fort Hays, in cooperation with the Kansas Historical Society, Inc., offers a variety of unique and tasteful souvenirs and other items for sale at "The Post Trader's" Museum Store. Profits from the sale of Society of Friends items are used to assist with programming, promotion, rehabilitation, and interpretation of the Fort Hays site. Some of these items are described here.

A number of unique items are for sale in the Post Trader's Museum Store including buffalo stuffed animals, kits to construct a girl's bonnet, hand-carved wooden canoes, hard tack Army bread like that carried by Frontier soldiers, and a wide selection of post rock items.

The Post Trader's Museum Store has an excellent selection of books including a section specifically for children. These include workbooks, coloring books, and historical books sure to not only entertain but educate, as well.

The store has a wonderful section of books dealing with the west as seen through the eyes of the women who lived it, both pioneer women and Native American women. Most of these books are based on diaries, letters and interviews, creating a unique and often overlooked perspective of frontier history.

Riddle of the Lost Gold and its sequel Road to El Dorado are historical novels that use Fort Hays as a setting. They were written by Joan McAfee who grew up in Hays. Both books were recently added to the official list of books approved for Kansas schools.

This is just a small sample of the quality items in our store. Please write, telephone, or email to purchase or obtain more information on these and other items for sale in "The Post Trader's" Museum Store.
