Featured Quilter

Grinter Place Quilter's CornerRuth has been the Grinter Place Quilters Chairman since not long after she joined about a year ago. Ruth began quilting 25 years ago, when her sister-in-law got her started, but had been interested long before that. She was involved in a quilting group in Washington, Mo, and was looking for another here, when Bonnie drug her to Grinter Place Quilters, and she became the chairman soon after. In addition to quilting, Ruth also designs quilts and makes quilt patterns. Growing up in "Lewis and Clark Country" she has always had an interest in the duo and their excursions, so when the idea was brought up about making a "Lewis and Clark" quilt, she jumped right in and started researching. Her son made the quilt rack they are using to quilt this special quilt. Instead of a more modern rack, they wanted to use a more authentic 19th century quilt rack. As the planning and design for the quilt and it's story developed, Ruth visited, St. Louis and the River Dubois areas for more information. "I lived, breathed, and slept with Lewis and Clark for months!" Ruth says. Ruth not only researched the quilt, she also designed it, wrote it's story and marked it with contributions from the Grinter Place Quilters. The "Lewis and Clark" quilt will be unveiled on June 22nd at 1:30pm at the Grinter Place Visitors Center and will be on tour after that. People from all over the region will be able to enjoy the work put in by Ruth and the Grinter Place Quilters.
