The mission, part of a complex of buildings, was built
in 1847. It was operated as a boarding school for children of the Potawatomi
Indians, an eastern tribe which had been forced west by the federal government
in the 1830s.
The mission is location at the Kansas
Historical Society's headquarters in Topeka. The first floor
also has a small exhibit on Kansas missions plus a period classroom
for school groups. The second and third floor offer meeting
and conference facilities for rental.
