The Kansas Museum of History offers two galleries of exhibits on our state's colorful past. We're conveniently located near I-70 in west Topeka. Our Main Gallery is arranged chronologically from early people to recent past, although you can follow your own path in exploring these exhibits. Our Special Exhibits Gallery features changing displays. Combined these two spaces cover 22,000 square feet. Allow an hour and a half to two hours to tour the museum.

The Museum offers standards-based thematic tours especially designed for school groups with prior notice. Self-guided tour materials are also available. Tours of the gallery are included with the price of admission on Sunday afternoons. Ask for a Cool Things in the Museum brochure to find some of the highlights in the gallery.

The snack area at the museum features vending machines with snacks and soft drinks.

Tables and chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parking is free and located near the museum building.

Discovery Place, especially for children up to age nine, invites visitors to touch everything. This space is available for reservation in the mornings. Admission is free.
