Advisory Committee Meeting
May 9, 2003, 1:30 p.m.
Location: Kansas Highway Patrol Headquarters, Topeka, Kansas
Present at the May 9, 2003 meeting were committee members: Chairman
Bill Miskell, Department of Corrections; Chuck Sexson, KBI; Kenneth
Roy, Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police; Sergeant J. L. Riedel,
Kansas State Troopers’ Association; Sheriff Janet Harrington,
Kansas Sheriffs’ Association; Director Ed Pavey, Kansas Law Enforcement
Training Center; Tom Williams, Attorney General’s Office; Capt.
Ken Gorman, Fraternal Order of Police; and Matt Veatch, Kansas Historical Society. Others attendees: Herman Jones, Kansas Highway Patrol;
former Attorney General Robert Stephan; Richard Schroeder, Allied Inc.;
Keith Dreiling, Kansas State Troopers’ Association.
Approval of Minutes
Mr. Veatch distributed minutes of the April 11, 2003 meeting. Capt.
Gorman moved approval of the minutes as submitted, Sheriff Harrington
seconded, and the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Mr. Veatch distributed the treasurer’s report. He commented that
the $2050 in donations for memorial restoration and expansion would
be transferred from the state account to the Law Enforcement Memorial
Foundation bank account once the Foundation received its tax identification
number.
Sheriff Harrington moved approval of the treasurer’s report as
submitted, Mr. Sexson seconded, and the motion was approved.
Old Business
Sheriff Harrington reported that she was performing research on Frank
Hunt as a potential addition to the memorial.
Chairman Miskell asked whether any additional Committee funds, beyond
the $2050 in donations already approved for transfer, should be moved
to the foundation account. Committee members unanimously agreed not
to transfer additional monies.
New Business
Director Pavey complimented the ceremony coordinators on a job well
done.
Next Meeting
Members will receive an email announcing the next meeting date, time,
and place.
Adjournment
Gorman moved, Harrington seconded, meeting adjourned at 1:45 pm.
