The Old Logan County Courthouse is a two-story, brick and stone building that was designed by architect Alfred Meyer of Atchison. Constructed in 1887 by George D. Kerns of Russell Springs, the building reflects the Renaissance style. The building's main entrance projects out slightly with a steep tower roof and a Palladian window dormer that accentuates the top. The rest of the roof is a steeply pitched, flat-hipped roof. A group formed to save the building when the county courthouse offices moved to Oakley in 1963. In 1965, the group dedicated the building as the Butterfield Trail Museum, and it is still in use today. Winona Consolidated School

Designed by Hutchinson architects Routedge and Hertz in 1926, the Winona Consolidated School is a two-story brown brick building with a clay tile roof. The roof is an intersecting hip with intersecting gable ends. It is Eclectic in style with influences of Collegiate Gothic, Tudor and Spanish revival styles. Nominated as part of the "Historic Public Schools of Kansas" multiple property listing, it is still in use as a school. |
