2008 Kansas History Day Special Awards and Prizes
Bleeding Kansas Award ($50)
The Bleeding Kansas and the Enduring Struggle sponsor this award for Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area. It is open to all entries regardless of level or category. It is awarded to the best entry dealing with the topic of Bleeding Kansas. This year's winner is:

Senior Individual Performance: "James Lane: The Conflicted Life of a US Senator and the Compromises He Made".
Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City History Award ($100)
This prize is sponsored by the Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City . It is open to all entries regardless of geographical origin, level or category. It is awarded to the best entry dealing with Kansas City-area history. The Kansas City area is defined as Douglas, Franklin, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas, and Carroll, Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte, and Ray Counties in Missouri. This year's winner is:

Senior Historical Paper: "A Voice of Reason in Uncompromising Times: James Hanway's Kansas"
Society for American Baseball Research Prize ($75)
This prize is sponsored by the Society for American Baseball Research, and is open to all entries with a connection to the history of baseball. Multiple awards are available. Prizes include a selection of books and a one-year membership in the Society. This years recipients are:
