Esther Brown was an ordinary woman with an uncommon idea. She believed that all people should be granted a fair shake in education. Despite the hatred of an all white community, Brown stood up for her beliefs, influencing events that would bring equal education and opportunities to all.



This documentary was produced by Anna Hamilton and Sjobor Hammer for their 2006 Kansas History Day project.

"Lighting the Dark Places" received first place for junior group documentary at the National History Day competition in College Park, Maryland, June 2006.
