Primarily Teaching

PRIMARILY TEACHING is an education program of the National Archives that supports educators (K-12 schools, colleges, libraries, historical societies, etc.) conducting original research on topics such as the Holocaust, the Cold War, Sputnik, Vietnam, and many more, with the assistance of National Archives archivists and educators. The program is in its 29th year at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and this is the third year that it is offered at the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kansas, July 17 - 25.

Primarily Teaching is open to school administrators, media specialists, curriculum supervisors, and classroom teachers. Participants are introduced to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), including Presidential Libraries, Regional Archives, and the National Archives, located in Washington, D.C. Participants are acquainted with the wealth of educational resources available throughout NARA, and they depart with a notebook filled with educational materials. Best of all, they spend an entire week conducting original research in the archives of the Eisenhower Presidential Library for the purpose of developing either a lesson plan or a presentation.

A registration fee of $100, includes a notebook filled with classroom resources, books, and two meals.
