Scope and content: Series contains applications for state relief filed by the heads of families who had settled in western Kansas. The applications list the names and ages of all family members and the reasons aid is needed. These applications were justified under a February 15, 1881 act for the relief of the destitute in western Kansas. They are organized by county. Counties include Cheyenne, Decatur, Edwards, Ellis, Ford, Gove, Graham, Gray, Harper, Hodgeman, Lane, Norton, Phillips, Pratt, Rawlins, Rooks, Rush, Sheridan, Thomas, and Trego.
