Summary: An informal portrait of James Burnett Abbott, 1818-1897, and his wife Elizabeth Ann Watrous Abbott, standing in their flower garden in De Soto, Kansas. The Abbotts were early settlers and an anti-slavery free state activists in Kansas Territory. James Abbott served as both a representative and senator in the State Legislature. In 1861, he was appointed Shawnee Indian agent in De Soto, Kansas and served in that capacity until 1866.
