Summary: This sepia colored photographs shows Camp Alice on the North Canadian River in the Oklahoma Indian Territory. The site was where David L. Payne and his group of settlers know as "boomers" were arrested for attempting to claim land for settlement. The group was later escorted back to the Kansas border and released. The lands that the "boomers" attempted to settle were some of the last lands set aside for Native American tribes who had been removed from their ancestral lands in other parts of the U.S.
