A "bracero" was a farm laborer from Mexico who was contracted on a temporary basis during World War II, between the Mexican and the United States government to assist with the labor shortage in the U.S. After the war the "Bracero Program", as it was commonly referred to, continued among the two countries until it formally ended in 1964.
