Summary: This is a photograph of Aretas Allen Godard, who served as Kansas' 19th Attorney General from January 9, 1899 to January 12, 1903. Godard was born December 18. 1855 in Granville, Pennsylvania. He received his education in New York at Syracuse University. In 1876, he came to Kansas and practiced law at Holton in Jackson County and Clay Center in Clay County. Godard moved to Topeka in 1893. He was the first president of the State Saving Bank of Topeka and owned the Kansas Central Telephone Company. He was the Republican candidate for Attorney General. Godard moved to Florida in 1925 and continued to practice law there until his death, September 9, 1948, in Miami.
