Biographical sketch: Howard Lincoln Athon was born January 12, 1896 at Quenemo, Kansas, the son of Nathaniel Dean and Hallie Lanning Athon. After high school he joined the Navy on June 30, 1917 and served on several ships during World War I. After receiving a honorable discharge, Howard returned home. On December 31, 1922, Howard married Eunice Roberta Tournade at Lyndon, Kansas. She was born September 17, 1898 at Ocala, Florida; however, Eunice moved to Lyndon, Kansas at an early age. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia and later taught school in Lyndon. Howard was an electrician and worked at Jones Electric Company, the State Printing Plant, Kansas Commerce Commission and Local No. 225 of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Also, he was a private pilot. They had three children Hazel, Merrill, Robert and Donald. Eunice died in February, 1977 and Howard died September 5, 1986.

Scope and content: This is a collection of materials documenting the life of Howard Lincoln Athon and Eunice Roberta Athon. After high school Howard joined the Navy on June 30, 1917 and served on several ships during World War I. The collection contains military records, letters to his parents, and a diary written in 1918. There is a script for a slide program telling about his life. Also, the collection contains a notice of their wedding, obituaries, a newspaper article telling about the purchase of a new airplane, a campaign card for Howard who ran for water commissioner, Merrill D. Athon's college commencement announcement, and biographical information on Henry Athon written by Howard. Eunice Roberta Athon was a member of the Topeka Stamp Club and there are several membership directories.
