Biographical sketch: Biographical information from an obituary published in the Topeka Capital Journal, November 23, 2014. James A. Power, Jr. was born December 28, 1926 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of James and Bettina Power. He graduated from the University of Kansas, School of Engineering, with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1957, Jim began work at the Kansas Water Resources Board. He later joined the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, retiring in February of 1991 as the Director of Environment for the State of Kansas. On December 23, 1950, he married Audrey Lyon and they had two daughters, Jane Power Dettmann and Carol Power Becker.
