Abstract: The collection consists of Breed family papers as well as correspondence and other materials to and from individuals from Browns Creek Township, Jewell County, Kansas. It includes materials to and from Leslie Breed and other family members who moved to Humboldt, Iowa; diaries belonging to Reverend H.G. Breed from c1869, 1873-1874, and 1888 including information about his Methodist ministry in Jewell County; H.G. Breed's record book for the Ionia circuit of the northwestern Kansas Conference of the Methodist Church; an unidentified notebook and autograph book, both from the 1850s; and canceled checks for School District no. 121 from the 1880s and 1890s. Also included are graduation, wedding, and other announcements; property leases; greeting and postcards; newspaper clippings; genealogical information and research involving H.E. Breed, Thomas Goff, and Mrs. Buckley; and other such materials. Much of the correspondence dates from the first half of the nineteenth century; one individual was with the Civilian Conservation Corps, and another correspondent lived in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India.
